Inspired by the one and only Chris Ying! Jack & Michelle are big fans of Major Domo Media’s YouTube and often watch the recipes David Chang and Chris Ying create.
One of our favorite snacks comes from the video on making honey butter popcorn. We watched his video and had to give it a try with Stepladder's avocado blossom honey and cultured butter. It's incredible and have served this at many gatherings!
Ingredients:
- 1 c popcorn kernels, Amish Country Popcorn
- 4-6 oz (or more!) Butter: Stepladder Creamery Salted or Unsalted butter (Michelle loves salt so prefers to use salted butter)
- ¼ c Honey - Avocado Blossom honey
- 4 oz Fry oil
- Kosher Salt, to taste
- Maldon Salt, a few pinches
- MSG, 2-3 pinches
Tools:
- Nonstick pan with lid
- Giant popcorn bowl
Directions:
- Heat up fry oil in a nonstick pan and let it warm on medium heat.
- Add popcorn kernels and place the lid on. Make sure the heat is on medium low. Let the pan sit on the heat occasionally moving around until the kernels start to pop. Being careful not to burn the popcorn. Swivel the pan around a few times per minute. The popcorn is done when you don't hear the popping sound every 3-5 seconds.
- Dump popcorn in a bowl.
- Place the pan back on the stove on low heat, add the butter and let melt then stir in the honey mix for about 45 seconds.
- Add the popcorn back in the pan and place the lid on and shake vigorously for about 1-2 minutes until the honey butter mix is fully incorporated into the popcorn.
- Add the salt options to taste (Kosher, maldon, MSG). Michelle likes using the salted butter for a deep salty flavor, about 2 pinches of MSG, and 1-2 pinches of maldon salt to finish it off for a nice extra crunch.
Enjoy!
Makes enough for 4 people, or in Michelle’s case while making this blog, 1 person : )
