Jun 24, 2026JACK & MICHELLE RUDOLPH

The results are in, and we are incredibly honored to share that Stepladder Creamery has been named the 2026 Artisan Producer of the Year at this year’s California State Fair Cheese Competition!

This recognition is a huge testament to the hard work our team puts in every day on the ranch. It’s one thing to make cheese we love, but to have a panel of experts recognize the quality and consistency of our entire lineup is a truly special feeling!

“Our dairy and cheese team has worked tirelessly to raise the bar year after year, and this recognition is a meaningful validation of their dedication and craftsmanship. We’re also deeply grateful to our customers and supporters. Their loyalty and enthusiasm have made this journey possible.” – Jack

While the Producer of the Year title is a collective win for the whole creamery, several of our cheeses stood out to the judges:

The Best of California Winners

Three of our staples were recognized as the top in their respective divisions, earning the coveted "Best of California" honors:

  • Fromage Blanc (Best of Division: Cultured Cow Milk Cheese)
  • Chèvre (Best of Division: Cultured Goat Milk Cheese)
  • Ragged Point (Best of Division: Semi-Soft Mixed Milk Cheese)

Double Gold & Gold Medals

We were also thrilled to see a wide range of our lineup bring home high honors, showcasing the variety of flavors we love to produce:

  • Double Gold: Burning Love, Chèvre, and Fromage Blanc.
  • Gold: Big Sur, Bixby, Cabrillo Reserve, and Ragged Point.

Silver & Bronze Honors

Rounding out our wins were Silver medals for Spicy Fromage Blanc and Cabrillo, and Bronze medals for Lumberjack, Goat Cheddar, and Rocky Butte.

For us, these awards represent more than just ribbons; they reflect our commitment to the land, our care for our animals, and our dedication to our craft here on the Central Coast.
